On June 5th, 2020 Joseph Homes became a signatory of the World Green Building Council (WGBC) Net Zero Building Commitment. This commitment has been on our minds from the very beginning when we set out our Live Well manifesto and we are proud to be one of under 100 worldwide signatories to join the cause. We are committed to ensuring all the buildings we own, occupy and develop will be energy positive by 2025.
Green Building Councils (GBCs) are present in 70 countries around the world and are leading the movement when it comes to building healthier and more sustainable environments. They aim to deliver on the Paris Agreement by eliminating the buildings and construction sector’s emissions by 2050.
“As a certified B-Corp, one of Joseph Homes most important stakeholders is the planet, and we take our mission of building better homes for a better world seriously. We believe that the built environment has the potential to be a big part of the solution to the climate emergency, and we are proud to be working towards this goal.”
Below are the commitments we have made:
1. Commit
Commit that all new homes and occupied offices will be energy positive
by 2025.
2. Disclose
Disclose Scope 1, 2 and 3 operational and embodied emissions data at asset and portfolio level via an annual report.
3. Act
Continue to implement its Livewell™ manifesto by developing buildings using a fabric first approach, reducing energy demand and usage with any balance provided by renewables.
4. Verify
Verify emissions data via a third party in an annual stakeholder report. Attain BREEAM and WELL certification for all new developments.
5. Advocate
Show industry leadership by accounting for and reducing embodied carbon emissions in developments and setting a target to get beyond zero. Advocate for industry wide transformation by challenging the supply chain, informing customers and communicating through media and communications channels.
